New Abacus service introducted to Data Services
Important: Read before downloading data

20 November 2009
Data Services is happy to announce a major upgrade to our services. Our data is now stored on a new server, Abacus. To download data from this server, you may enter your barcode/PIN as usual, or you may now use your CWL Login. CWL logins are currently experimental; if you experience problems, please revert to the barcode/PIN combination.

Abacus is the new dedicated service for a four university data consortium, consisting of UBC, Simon Fraser University, the University of Northern BC and the University of Victoria. Data are now divided into a series of collections, corresponding to each university, plus one larger shared data collection called "Abacus".

UBC users may download data from either the Abacus collection or the UBC collection, but are restricted to viewing metadata only for other collections. Abacus is an adjunct to the current Data Services website. It is now possible to search for data via this server, or by using the Abacus service directly. However, the older method of data discovery is still in place and may be used if desired.

Although we are attempting to make our transition as smooth as possible, should errors arise please notify Data Services.
